Potions and Brewery In Minecraft

 Potions are a great way to avoid bad situations and Help with day to day Minecrafting.

To make any potion the first thing you need is a Brewing stand. Inside the brewing stand are 3 slots for bottles and a slot for ingredients.
 
The blaze rod needed for a brewing stand is obtained by killing a blaze. Blazes are powerful mobs found in Nether fortresses inside the nether. They Shoot fire balls and are quite hard to kill.

The Next step is to make 3 bottles and fill them in the same way you would fill a bucket (Right click a water source with a bottle in your hand.) Now place the bottles in the Brewing stand. Time to decide which potion is best for you! (Different potions require different ingredients.)

Positive effect potions

Instant Health

The instant health potion is probably the quickest way to heal.
Instant health is made by placing nether wart (Found in Nether fortresses) in the top slot.

That will make an awkward potion. The awkward potion has no 
Effect. 


If you place a glistening melon in the ingredient slot it will make a Instant health potion.

The instant health potion Heals 4 Hearts instantly. 


If you Place a piece of glowstone dust into the top slot it will upgrade the potion to a Instant Health II this will heal 6 hearts instantly.

Fire resistance

Fire resistance is a great way to survive the nether. It allows you to swim in lava, be on fire and get hit with flame arrows and yet take no damage. 

It is made by taking an awkward potion (See start of Instant health) And placing a magma cream into the ingredient slot.

 Magma cream can be obtained in two ways. It can be gotten as a drop from a magma cube ( basically the nether's version of a slime.) or combining a slimeball with blaze powder. 
The fire resistance potion lasts 3 minutes. But if you add a piece of redstone it will last 8 minutes.

Swiftness

The potion of swiftness increases your speed, this can be useful in Pvp as you can chase down your foe. It is made by placing a piece of sugar into a brewing stand whilst awkward potions are in the bottom slot. This makes a speed 1 potion which lasts 3 minutes.

 If you add redstone lasts 8 minutes.

whereas if you add glowstone it will become a speed 2 potion which lasts 1 minutes 30 seconds.

Strength

A potion of strength increases the amount of damage dealt to an enemy. It is extremely useful during Pvp as it allows you to do more damage than a diamond sword with only an iron one.
 It is made by adding a blaze powder to a awkward potion This makes a strength 1 Potion which lasts 3 minutes.

 If you add redstone it makes it last 8 minutes
 
however if you add a piece of glowstone it makes it a potion of strength 2 although it only lasts 1 minute 30 seconds.

Night Vision

Night vision enables you to see in the dark which is helpful when caving. 

To make it you need to add a golden carrot to awkward potions.

If you add a piece of redstone the potion lasts 8 minutes which is longer than a Minecraft night-time.

Regeneration

Regeneration enables you to heal rapidly and still heal for more time after the potion is used. 

To make it you need to add a ghast’s tear to a awkward potion. A ghast’s tear is obtained by killing a ghast from the nether.

If you add a piece of redstone it makes the effect last longer. Whereas if you add a piece of glowstone it regenerates faster.

Splash Potions!

Splash potions are made by taking any normal potion and adding gunpowder. The advantages of splash potions are.

1. They can be thrown a medium distance meaning that you can deal a negative effect to an enemy.

2. You can use them to apply an effect to an infinite amount of players using only 1 potion.

3. You can make traps with the potions using dispensers.

4. Rather than waiting the few seconds it takes to drink a potion you can instantly apply the effect to yourself. In an emergency e.g a Pvp battle if your on a low amount of health you can heal instantly.

I have not covered corruption effects as i hope to do a second post for the Negative and corrupted potions in minecraft. Also in Minecraft 1.7 the “Water Breathing” Potion will be added so I will probably include that in the post about the Negative and corrupted potions in minecraft.
